Verdwaalde voorouders. De herkomst van v. 9115-9154 van Jacob van Maerlants Rijmbijbel
Abstract - The first part of Jacob van Maerlant's Rijmbijbel
(1271) is a translation/adaptation of Peter Comestor's Historia Scholastica.
Ll. 9115-9154, however, contain a genealogy from Jacob to David for which
Maerlant seems to have consulted neither Comestor nor any other of the
tradionally known sources of the Rijmbijbel. It is Peter of Poitier's
Compendium Historiae in Genealogia Christi which not only contains
all the facts (minus two minor details), it is also often added to manuscripts
with Comestor's Historia Scholastica. Both Compendium and
Rijmbijbel revolve around Jesus; Maerlant includes the genealogy
when introducing His most famous ancestor and prefiguration: David.
