Lambert ten Kate en hedendaagse, Nederlandse morfologie
Abstract - Lambert ten Kate (1674-1731), the celebrated eighteenth-century
Dutch linguist, was a most versatile scholar in the field of linguistics.
This paper focuses on his contribution to morphology, in particular on
his 'panchronic' approach to the Germanic verbal system as it has been
put forward in Ten Kate's voluminous classic, the Aenleiding tot de
kennisse van het verhevene deel der Nederduytsche sprake (1723). As
it appears, Ten Kate operates with a simple and implicit conception of
morphological networks. Discussing Ten Kate's treatment of the Ablaut the
author compares Ten Kate's ideas with present-day views on morphological
conversion.
