Afgedwongen nasalering
Abstract - The nasalization in words like: [lã:(m)p] 'lamp',
[bõ:(n)t] 'fur', which appears a.o. in the southern Dutch dialects,
is triggered by the absorption of the 'place' feature of the nasal by the
following hormorganic consonant. The loss of 'time', need to give room
to the remaining 'nasal' feature, is compensated by lengthening the vowel.
So the Brabantic nasalized syllables still are in full harmony with the
Dutch syllable-template, being this the rime: [-cons] [+son][+cons].
