Een sonnet van Tesselschade Roemers in genderperspectief
Abstract - The poetry of Tesselschade Roemers, a famous woman author
of Early Modern Times in the Dutch Republic, has scarcely been interpreted.
The recent annotated edition of her poems offers the opportunity to make
new and renewing inquiries into her work. This article raises the question
of how Tesselschade Roemers as a poet deals with the gender-biased presuppositions
of her time. The interpretation of her poem 'Wat in de lotery Des lucks
zyn oorspronck nam' with the help of the so-called 'philological method'
answers this question only partly and also clarifies that this way of interpreting
texts is not a sufficient one for reading texts in 'gender' perspective.
