Arion op de dolfijn en het titelblad van de Hert-spiegel

Abstract - In this article it is shown that the epigram about Arion sitting on the dolphin on the title page of H.L. Spiegel's Hert-spiegel, is based on an emblem by Alciato. Subsequently it is suggested that the title page of the posthumously printed editions (1614 and 1615), with its emblematic combination of epigram and picture, was designed by Spiegel himself to give the purport of the whole poetic work in miniature.
