Abstract - The method of text-reconstruction as introduced by A.M. Duinhoven in his Bijdragen tot reconstructie van de 'Karel ende Elegast' appears to have important implications. Especially if one tries to arrive at the known Karel ende Elegast-text by way of 're-reconstructing' the quasi-original text, using Duinhoven's proposals, the method leads to complications, paradoxes and discrepancies in the assumed textual history.
