Het opstijgend akkoord des levens. Stilistische, compositorische en ideologische aspecten van Opwaartsche wegen (Henriëtte Roland Holst)
Abstract - The subject of this article is Opwaartsche wegen (1907),
a remarkable volume of poems, written by Henriëtte Roland Holst (1869-1952).
It is a poetical vision of the rising paths the socialists have to climb
towards a society of freedom. The composition, imagery and versification
of Opwaartsche wegen support the idea of climbing and they are closely
linked with the writer's socialist ideology. This ideology differs from
the official theory of the Dutch socialist party: the poetess stresses
the interpretation of Life as an endless, indefinite flow.
