Vlaamse zakelijkheid? Over de nieuwe zakelijkheid als poëticaal concept in Vlaanderen
Abstract -- The debate on the question whether the literature of the Netherlands and of Flanders is one or whether there are in fact two literary systems -- one Dutch, one Flemish -- is discussed in a case study: the use of the concept 'Nieuwe Zakelijkheid'. Not only do the remarks regarding 'Nieuwe Zakelijkheid' published in Flemish journals turn out to be based on the same values of idealistic esthetics as in the Netherlands, but the ideas concerning 'Nieuwe Zakelijkheid' in the Netherlands and in Flanders are in other ways closely tied to each other as well. One can conclude that in the interbellum period there seems to be only one Dutch literature.
