Abstract -- In a former issue of this journal J.W. Klein tried to prove that my reconstructions of older phases of the Karel ende Elegast were not reliable, as they would result in far too many successive manuscripts. However, Klein's calculations are based on several misconceptions. He does not take oral elements in the text tradition into account, does not distinguish between copy and adaptation, he places parallel changes in a row and ignores the unmistakable signs that the text has been changed.
