Hoe consistent, modern en beknopt is het WNT?

Abstract -- This year saw the completion of the WNT, the voluminous historical dictionary of the Dutch language. On the occasion of this event the editor-in-chief presents an analysis of the microstructures of seven near-synonyms, beven, bibberen, huiveren, rillen, sidderen, trillen and vibreren. On the basis of this analysis it will be argued that the WNT is consistent and in a certain way even ‘modern' by giving not only word senses but all kinds of collocational information as well. It is however rather inconsistent as far as the weight and the place of these collocational categories in the article structures are concerned. Nevertheless the WNT will play an important part in the Dutch lexicography of the future.
