Van Bruno Brehm tot Thomas Mann. Simon Vestdijk en de Duitstalige literatuur

Abstract -- Simon Vestdijk was well informed about German literature. Not only did he write quite a few essays about it, he also translated a number of German literary works. Because of the fact that some of the authors he translated had a rather positive attitude towards the Third Reich Verstdijk's translations are mostly mentioned in the discussions about his attitude towards the German agressor. This article analyses Verstdijk's commitment to German literature both as a critic and as a translator.
