‘Nu een woordjen van de Idea'

Abstract -- In 1707 Adriaen Verwer published his Linguae Belgicae idea grammatica, poetica, rhetorica. Because this grammar was difficult to get at the end of the eighteenth century, Everhart van Driel issued a second, annotated edition in 1783. Recently, a Dutch translation of this second edition has been published. During the eighteenth century several attempts were made at translating Verwer's grammar into Dutch. Although it is generally assumed that these attempts were unsuccessful, a complete Dutch translation has been discovered by De Bonth at Leiden University Library. This article contains a survey of the eighteenth century attempts to translate Verwer's grammar and a review of the recently published edition of the book.
