Eigentijdse commentaar bij zestiende- en vroeg-zeventiende-eeuwse gedichten

Abstract -- Jan van der Noot's Poeticsche Werken (1588-1595) and Daniel Heinsius's Nederduytsche Poemata (1614) contain poems accompanied by commentaries. Those in the Poeticsche Werken are presumably Van der Noot's own work, whereas the texts of Heinsius are dealt with by his friend Petrus Scriverius. Van der Noot comments in a paraphrazing and rhetorical way, Scriverius acts as the analysing philologist. Both aim at the same purpose: they want to canonize the respective author by providing his poems with a substantial apparatus, at one time reserved for classical texts only.
