Vlissings inzicht (Over een gedicht van Kees Ouwens)

Abstract -- The following interpretation of Kees Ouwens’ poem ‘Noemloos zijn tijding ontruimende wijkende’ is contextualized by a few symbolist and post-symbolist texts, especially a poem by P.C. Boutens, and by Ouwens’ work as a whole. This comparative approach leads to the conclusion that Ouwens deconstructs and demystifies the illusion, shared by romantic and symbolist poets, of poetry as a means to evoke or create a metaphysical reality.
