Abstract -- This article discusses the mother vs. the father image in the work of the Dutch writer Charlotte Mutsaers. Psychoanalytical theories such as the theory of the Elektra complex are used, among other things, to analyse the mother-daughter relationship. Special attention is also paid to the reversal of traditional roles associated with motherhood and fatherhood, since in Mutsaers’ books, the father embodies creativity, spontaneity and tenderness whereas the mother stands for order, severity and coldness.
