In the correspondence with her husband Hugo de Groot (Grotius), Maria van Reigersberch starts in her younger years with the ghy system and Uwe Liefde (‘Your Love’). From 1621 onwards, however, the more prestigious and formal UE. system dominates the ghy system. The letters from Hugo de Groot to Maria van Reigersberch show the same switch. The letters from Maria to her brother Nicolaes are written in a dominating UE. system. Her brother is extremely formal in his letters to her. His percentage of the UE. system is 87.
In the letters to her sons Maria van Reigersberch uses only the ghy system.
