Jos Joosten & Thomas VaessensProblemen en perspectieven van de modern-letterkundige neerlandistiek Abstract -- The authors sketch the current situation of the study of Dutch Literature. Their conclusions: there is too little discussion, one is oriented towards a nation-wide audience and not towards an international audience and the field is hampered by a lack of interdisciplinary research. Joosten and Vaessens propose to maintain the study of Dutch Literature as an independent discipline. They also propose some practical solutions for the current problems: making research on Dutch literature internationally available through translation, resisting ‘education on popular demand’, providing students with a broader, interdisciplinary theoretical basis and creating a more challenging intellectual climate to stimulate new talent.
