Methodologische vernieuwing in het dialectologisch onderzoek van Kloeke

Abstract -- Kloeke received his academic training in Germany, but his father, a headmaster, also played an important role in his development and ambitions. The ambition of widening the scope from the description of one dialect to the explanation of diffusion processes in the entire Dutch language area is already visible in the treatment of the schwa-apocope in a northern area and is based on fieldwork and on transcription methods he had been taught in Leipzig. His social dialectological methods and explanations were influenced by his father and by Meillet, his historical explanations by the Rhineland school and his relatively phonemic approach to transcription was influenced by his Doktorvater Sievers.
