G.G. Kloeke en de F-zijde van de Nederlandse dialectologie

Abstract -- During the earliest period of his career, G.G. Kloeke was particularly interested in two regions which meet in an area coded with ‘F’ in Kloeke's own mapping system of the Dutch dialectological space; namely the province of Overijssel, and the area surrounding Zuyderzee. For both area's, Kloeke first presented a rather bold, but well-researched, claim, to be followed somewhat later by an article in which a lot of attention was paid to the facts, without underlying theory. Looking at Kloeke's biography helps to understand both Kloeke's interest in this particular area and his publication history. Kloeke was born in the area ‘F’. He published his theoretical work in times when he tried to improve his academic position. His more descriptive work was written when this position seemed to be secured.
