Twee modellen van intellectualiteit: Blokken van Ferdinand Bordewijk en Tongkat van Peter Verhelst
Abstract -- In this paper, I present a comparison of the ideas on intellectuality in the dystopian novels Blokken (1931) by Ferdinand Bordewijk, and Tongkat (1999) by Peter Verhelst. By applying conceptions of intellectuality by Sartre, Horkheimer and Lyotard, I argue that the intellectual characters in each case display a different type of intellectuality although embedded in the same situation of imprisonment in a totalitarian regime.
