'Ik spreek heftig ik antwoord nooit'. Conversaties in Stefan Hertmans' Kopnaad
Abstract -- Kopnaad (1992) presents a very peculiar relation between literature and madness in the form of a dramatic interaction between four 'voices'. Using speech act criticism as a basis, this paper argues that a set of alternative conversational conventions regulates the interaction between the four voices and between the text and the reader. The course of these conversations is affected by the intertextual conversation that intersects them and by features of madness.
