Taalcontact of onvolledige verwerving: casusverlies bij de Zeeuwse pronomina

Abstract -- In the Dutch language, the dialects of the province of Zeeland occupy a special position, in that original object pronouns can be used to refer to subjects. Despite ongoing dialect loss and dialect levelling, the use of object pronouns in subject position appears to be spreading. A combination of intra- and extra-linguistic factors may explain this change. From an intra-linguistic point of view, the developments mirror the special typological status of third person pronouns. From an extra-linguistic point of view, both attitudinal aspects (polarisation, Taeldeman 2000) and imperfect dialect learning (cf. Rys 2003, De Vink 2004) may play a role.
