De criticus als bemiddelaar. Middlebrow en de Nederlandse literaire kritiek in het interbellum
Abstract -- This article discusses some aspects of what could be referred to as 'middlebrow literary criticism' in the Netherlands in the period 1900-1925. Focusing on critical and metacritical discourses and practices in the monthly periodical Den Gulden Winckel it explores the possibilities of the concept 'middlebrow' as an interpretative searchlight for analyzing contemporary ideas and debates about the public function of criticism.
