Professor Nummedal is niet alleen. Een analyse van de namen in Willem Frederik Hermans' Nooit meer slapen
Abstract -- The article presents an analysis of the usage and function of the names in the novel Nooit meer slapen (Beyond sleep) of Willem Frederik Hermans. The names are studied in the context of all other names in the text (the so-called 'onymic landscape') and are differentiated into plot-internal and plot-external names. Starting with the speaking name of Nummedal, many names in this text are compared and discussed as to their usage as structuring stilistic elements and also regarding their functions. The functions found in this novel are identification, reality enhancing, characterizing, association, and accentuating/anonymizing.
